Frequently Asked Questions

What is the class size?

All of our classes are small group (or semi-private, if you prefer). The number of available spaces left for each class is displayed in the booking screen. Click Book Now to check what is still avaiable.

What are the dates and times?

All single-day classes run from 9 AM to 5 PM unless specifically noted otherwise. All weekend classes run from 4:00 PM to 4:00 PM two days later (typically these run from Friday 4:00 PM to Sunday 4:00 PM). Click the book now button to see available dates and times for classes.

What should I bring/wear?

Each class is unique based on location and local conditions for that date.  You will be sent an email with required and optional gear for your specific chosen class, one, two, or four weeks previous to your class date depending on the length of the class (one-day classes receive the email one week out, week-long classes receive it four weeks out).  Each class page has a generic packing list for that class type to give you an idea of what you may want to bring and give you time to gather the necessary items.  Below is a sample of the format and information contained in a generic packing list for a Survival 101 one-day course:

Required

  • Closed-toed shoes (hiking boots or tennis shoes are fine in warm weather, insulated and waterproof boots in winter/cold areas)
  • Long pants
  • Sun hat
  • Long sleeve shirt
  • Warm layers (including a warm hat and gloves depending on the season)
  • Rain gear
  • Large full water bottle and extra water
  • Lunch and snacks
  • Knives to practice sharpening with (can be kitchen knives if you don’t have a "survival" or pocket knife yet)

Optional

  • Sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Bug spray (seasonal)
  • Camp chair/crazy creek/sit pad
  • Note-taking materials
  • Leather gloves
  • Any survival-related gear you have questions about or may want to practice using or advice on

Where are the classes held?

All courses will be within a one-hour drive of the listed city. Details pertaining to that particular class and its specific location will be emailed to you after registering and approximately one week (or two or four for multi-day/longer courses) before your chosen class date.

What are the age requirements?

Most classes are geared towards adults, so we recommend that folks be at least 10 years old for one to two-day classes; 15 for week-long courses. All children 17 years or younger must have parental/legal guardian permission to attend the course and all children 15 years old and under must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Children under 10 may also attend with an adult, however, they may not absorb some of the concepts. If you’d like to have a course specifically designed for children, we recommend booking a private course with us.

What is your cancellation policy?

In order to receive a full refund (minus processing fees), clients must cancel their reservation at least 28 days in advance of their course date. Cancellations made less than 28 days before the class start date will result in one of the following actions based on a particular client’s situation: shifting your reservation to an upcoming course of the same or similar type that has openings, receiving monetary credit toward any future class with us, a partial or full refund minus processing fees, or no refund (generally in cases of no-show).

Can my male-identifying relative or friend come?

Most of our classes are intended exclusively for groups of women and non-binary folks who are comfortable in women-only spaces. However, we occasionally offer classes for all demographics where men are also welcome to join us. These will be indicated on the calendar or booking screen, under the title of "All-Inclusive".

What is your COVID policy?

Please know that we take the usual (plus) precautions pertaining to social distancing and increased hygiene when doing in-person classes. We also follow any updated Covid guidelines for each of the states we teach in as the intensity of the pandemic fluctuates and variants pop up. Most of our general admission classes take place outside and a handwashing station and hand sanitizer are made available. Students may choose to wear recommended masks or not as they prefer and are asked to respect a 6’ social distance for those students that wish to follow it. We do not require/check vaccination status, and will not do so unless it becomes required by law, however, our staff are vaccinated. Your comfort in this is critical to being able to learn what we teach, and thus is important to us! Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
